Reviews from Real Guests:

Nhi khoa: Only here for the day so not much time, walked through George Town and onto this tower at the back of central Penang which was surprisingly difficult to find . A shopping mall etc on lower levels, then bought tickets at 136 Malaysian ringgit for both of us which is about £26 for the observation deck on the 65th floor, we had a cold drink in the bar and walked on the glass floors and around the deck to get a great view of the surrounding area, another Asian Skyscraper off the list.

Trip.com User: we just went to Penang on 21/02/2020 , with my junior first time in Penang . we had a close visit around Comsat area as we stay in mei Hotel , nearby . it was a great experience fir the young lad as he look around this heritage city with eagerness to find out what other events all happen at the same time .

This traditional indigenous Chinese residence is a typical 19th century Baba Nyonya house decorated with Chinese hardwood furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl and carved with a mix of Chinese, Victorian and Dutch patterns. Since Zheng Chenggong's voyage to the West, a large number of Chinese have arrived in Nanyang and settled down. Chinese men married mixed-race children born to Malay women. The men were called Baba and the women were called Nyonya. At the same time, the fusion of traditional Chinese culture and Malay culture came into being. A new cultural system is Nyonya culture. The Nyonya Museum is the filming location of Yue's family in the TV series "Little Nyonya". It is the ancestral home of a famous local Baba family. The first-generation owner started out selling spices, and the current owner is the fourth-generation Baba. The whole family lives in Kuala Lumpur and took out their ancestral home to build this private museum.

Reviews from Real Guests:

LGKMY: Worth a visit. The elegantly restored museum is a testament to the Baba-Nyonya cultural revival and displays more than thousand pieces of antiques and collectibles. The Mansion was once the residence/office of Chung Keng Kwee (Kapitan China).

Trip.com User: After the trip to Penang, of course, you can eat the little girl's food yummy yummy to George town down the street. Curry noodles are famous. hk$10 A bowl of good cooking is important. The local fried noodles are famous. It is worth a try.

There are many centuries-old houses in Penang, and the most famous one is the former residence of Zhang Bishi. Because the appearance of the whole house is painted blue, it is also called "Blue House" by the locals. This magnificent periwinkle blue mansion is the relatively intact former residence of the Hakka businessman Zhang Bishi, known as the "Oriental Rockefeller" in Southeast Asia. Built in the 1880s, this indigo-blue Chinese-style courtyard is located on Lianhua River Road between LebuhChulia and JalanSultanAhmadShah in George Town, with easy access to surrounding traffic. Because the building's exterior is striking, it's easy to find. Zhang Bishi was born in Guangdong in 1841. He crossed the sea to Nanyang at the age of 16. He worked as a helper, opened a business, and mined tin, and became a rich man in Nanyang. Zhang Bishi's footprints traveled all over Southeast Asia and China, and he lived in countless mansions, but after nearly a hundred years of ups and downs and wars, very few have been completely preserved. The owner of the well-known Changyu wine in China is Zhang Bishi.

Reviews from Real Guests:

Long Shan Tang Qiu Company is an ancestral temple rich in artistic value in Penang. Qiu Company was established in 1835 by members of the Qiu family who moved from Fujian Province, China. Completed at the end of the 19th century, it suffered a fire shortly after. The current building was rebuilt in 1906 and remodeled in the 1950s. The company is the Chinese guild hall, which generally consists of two parts: a monastery and a meeting place. The carving art inside and outside the Longshan Tangqiu Company is all from the hands of famous Chinese masters. It is a place not to be missed by those who love Chinese culture and art.

The Penang Museum, built in 1821, was originally a school and was later converted into a museum. Although the size of the museum is small, it has collected many precious historical items, such as old photos, maps, charts, antiques, souvenirs, daily tools, porcelain, paintings, etc. of Penang, which comprehensively introduces the history and culture of Penang. and nature. The main exhibits are weapons such as swords, pistols, and cannons; there are also daily necessities such as ceramics, decorations, wooden boats, and agricultural machinery. There are also currency issued by the Japanese colonial government during World War II, documents from the Japanese army, and graduation certificates from Japanese language schools. The relics of war are very thought-provoking. In the museum you can also see a statue of Colonel Wright and an impressive steam locomotive.

Reviews from Real Guests:

Nhi khoa: Was having a lot of high hopes for Penang Museum as Penang is a heritage site and even the hotel I was staying at charged me additional RM2 per night just because it's in the heritage area. So that's a lot to say about their local Government and preserving the history. Entrance fee is RM1 - meagre in comparison to the National Museum in KL. But felt the content could have been well curated, tell the story of Penang in a more engaging way. I did get to know bout Francis Light, his last will etc but I'm still left with questions like why did Kedah royalty gave up Penang to him? What did Light see in Penang? How and when did the Britsih control ended? Why didn't Kedah take back Penang?

Bocean: This is an interesting museum documenting the history of Penang with an eclectic mix of exhibits. It’s not the most fascinating museum in the world, but the exhibits are good quality and mostly come with descriptions. I especially liked the mock-up of traditional Chinese houses.

Day 3 | Afternoon

Upside Down Museum nearby is the top choice before you leave Lembaga Muzium Negeri Pulau Pinang and hit the road.

It is known as the first museum in the world to provide indoor and outdoor inversion, side-to-side, 90-degree inversion and other inversions at different angles. The design of the inverted museum is completely anti-gravity, and all the items in the museum are upside down, living room, bedroom, kitchen , study, piano room, and even the design of various inverted spaces such as coffee shops, shops, and Penang heritage streetscapes, all have exerted infinite creativity. Here, you can experience the wonderful experience of "flying over the eaves", capture the fantastic world of whimsy, and take interesting and funny photos.

Reviews from Real Guests:

Bocean: Society argues that you can't fight gravity, but the Upside Down Museum illustrates that this isn't always the case. Visit the Upside Down Museum in Georgetown to feel what it's like to be on the opposite side of gravity's 335-year-old theory. Things go up and down. If you can survive the down, it will come back. Let's have fun at Upside Down Museum!

Kiwi T: There are many photos taking opportunities and very fun! The only down side is that on the day we went, the place was very crowded and we were rushed to take each photo op. The staff there were very helpful and cheerful!

The WonderFoodMuseum, a food paradise, has finally welcomed its first food museum in Penang, but the food here can only be seen, not eaten, because all the food on display here are fake and "exaggerated" versions of simulated food models . WonderFoodMuseum is to take you through the food of Penang. The food displayed in the museum includes Chinese food, Malay food, Indian food and traditional Baba Nyonya food. Not just gourmet food, but even food models larger than people. The curator also said that in order to encourage support for the anti-eating shark fin movement, the museum specially displayed slaughtered sharks and shark fins in one area to bring out the message with a three-dimensional effect. Because only a living example can let the public know such delicious food, and then there is a huge price to pay. There is also a mini "sister and brother riding together" in the museum, so tourists can hunt for treasures and find this little surprise. In the future, a map of Penang food will be displayed in the museum, and tourists can directly find local food on the map after visiting.
