Yosemite Valley Lodge is conveniently located inside Yosemite village as this is time of the year to see the firefall. Hotel has restaurant and cafeteria cater to different needs. Room is good but would be great if they have a microwave oven available so can use late night as restaurant closes at 9pm

The service at the Ahwahnee has been continuously slipping since Aramark took over. We have been going to the Ahwahnee for over 15 years, sometimes several times a year. Granted the hotel is about 100 years old and does need some upgrades, but the location is the best in Yosemite and you take the good with the bad. The dining room kitchen is going through a retrofit and as a result the food is buffet only. I’ll start off by saying even the best buffet is adequate at best. While we were seated in the beautiful dining room. The buffet was poor. I was at the buffet table several times, as I like to have my salad first and then return. We ate there both nights at 7:30 and on each night they ran out of entrees. I was told more was coming each night, and we went back to our table and waited as we got tired of standing around waiting for fresh food and the quality was poor. In addition the remaining items on the buffet had been in the chafing dishes too long. Since the bar kitchen was also under a retrofit, the Ahwahnee was the only option. At $60 pp I expected a lot more. Now for the rest of the stay. We were there for three nights, and the first night housekeeping never came by. I called the front desk and they said someone would come by. Didn’t happen. Day two about 2:30, the room was still not serviced. I saw someone working on another room and I went to that person and asked if they could make the room up. he did that in about 45 minutes. We were in the one of the cottages, very cool places to stay but they can get cold. They offer space heaters to help. Ours was broken and we reported it to the front desk, needless to say we never received a working one. Fortunately the baseboard heater was marginally working, so we didn’t freeze. We went to the small gift shop in the lobby where they have had hand made chocolates on our first night. There were none, I asked the person behind the counter when they might be arriving, and she simply shrugged and said I don’t know. In previous years they had propane fires built in on tables on the patio. I asked where they were and when they might be back. The person behind the front desk simply said maybe when it gets cold. I guess 32 degrees wasn’t cold enough. Finally, there used to be an afternoon tea where you could get tea and cookies. That too is gone, the front desk also had no idea if and when that would return. The one bit of good news about the hotel, was that the pool was reopened after two years. When you are paying over $600 per night, IMO you should get excellent service and a decent amount of amenities. I understand that the Ahwahnee is going through a remodel, but management has made very little effort to provide additional services to offset the potential problems. The sad thing is that it is an absolutely amazing location and myself and others will continue to go despite the poor service and run down facilities. The Department of Interior should consider replacing Aram

El Portal
|16.81km from Yosemite Valley
Best location! It was near and easy going around Yosemite park from this hotel. Right outside our room was the river and it was the best sight specially in the morning. Love the big bath tub with jets! Just needs more cleaning coz i noticed it has got molds already. There is absolutely no phone signal here and Wifi is not free so you have to purchase on check in. Funny tho coz once you are in Yosemite park, there is LTE signal. There is fridge, cooking utensils, electric stove, plates, cups, cleaning stuff, room was huge!! We got the 2 queen beds room type. The food in their restaurant is not so bad, the service could be better tho. Our food came super slow. There is plenty of parking space and its for free. I never get to try their pool and laundry facilities.

Our accommodation was relatively new and everything was in perfect condition. The lodge is very large and has several pool areas (there is something for everyone (quiet, loud, swimmers, etc.). We can recommend this accommodation. We felt very comfortable.
