This is more than a hotel it’s a treasure trove of interesting artefacts and art. The hotel staff were all great and very helpful nothing was too much trouble. We did a day trip to Mt Bruno which they organised and they made up a vegetarian breakfast box as we were leaving early and was really well equipped for the journey. Visit to Mt Bromo was really excellent and well worth the visit, though not for the faint hearted or those who suffer from car sickness !! Room was clean and bed comfortable/ AC was great. Pool was lovely and clean towels readily available and ample toiletries. There is an afternoon tea available between 1600 to 1800 provided by the hotel (free), and is well worth trying different teas and coffees along with various confectionery. As we were travelling by train the next morning once again they provided a breakfast box for our journey all vegetarian and well stocked for our travels. There are various restaurants nearby should you wish to dine out and all at very affordable prices and a great selection of fare. All rooms are no smoking however, If there was a “down side” people did smoke in the dining areas that are open to the outside including breakfast time and you could get the occasional whiff of smoke but no “biggy” All in all a lovely hotel and highly recommended for a stay in Malang and visits to local attractions.

Overall this hotel is good. It starts from me to check in, service, hygiene & facilities, not to mention style. It made me fall in love, it happened that I was in room 140 and then I was offered a cleaning room in the morning. It's just the thing in the KM section that really has to be renoved, Yellow floors are cleaned with vixal I think it can, KM for those who bring children must be dirty because the elevation is too expensive, another trs for tissue in the bathroom please do it in the place because the water splashes are wet. The phone doesn't work, the TV is very clear, the wifi is like a 5 watt light redup hehe.. Breakfast is also enough, the menu is a bit of a crumb. But I don't understand how they're especially making salads, because they're a vegetable sauce.

During our visit to Malang we stayed 2 nights in this hostel. We can describe it in 1 word as: RUIN. Both the showers, as well as the toilets, as the beds are very dirty. We doubt that it is being listened here. We also asked for help at the reception for booking Bromi, Ijen and the waterfalls in the surrounding area, but we received very little to no help. Tip: If you decide to stay here and book a trip, go to the other side of the House Jon, a very friendly service! We will not come back here anymore.

We had to extend in Malang a night and then spontaneously booked the same hotel. From outside and in the entrance area a real hingucker. The room (with 3 beds although we were only to the second) has somewhat disturbed the first impression. In the large and whole, however clean but with 3 beds there is no place in the room. In the bathroom you have to take some boards (at least with us in the room): It was not quite clean for this, but a little shampoo to the board. The staff was very friendly and checked in earlier. If the price is true, you can still stay here.

This hostel is very cute and the staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. You instantly feel at home here! The location is also great, with Jodipan rainbow village a 40 minute walk or a short car/scooter ride away and lots of places to buy snacks or eat out. Most travelers go out hiking during the day but different tour groups take people out at different times so we had the 8 bed dorm to ourselves most of the time. They offer a variety of tours to see Mount Ijen, Mount Bromo, Tempak Sewu and a few other nearby waterfalls at a great price! I recommend using their tours even if you don’t end up staying there.

Staying at the Shalimar hotel was an extraordinary experience. The rooms are comfortable, clean and complete with facilities, including typical Malang snacks provided in the room. The hotel is right beside MOG, 1 of the biggest Mall in Malang. They also has basement connector from Hotel to Mall so you wont get wet when its rain. The hotel room is clean. If you are lucky, you can see mountain from your room. The variaties of food not so many, i have to queue for long to get my eggs ready. They have good jamu (beras kencur, sinom and kunyit asem). If you are never been to Malang, i recommended you stayed in this hotel since near to many food places such as Gang Djangrik, Pecel Kawi, Bakso President, etc.

If you'd like a hotel with a view in Malang, and centrally located inside the city, this is the hotel for you. It gives me a great value for the money. I stayed at standard twin bed room with a balcony with mountain view. The location is superb. I can walk 10-15 minutes to Kawi Street, where many restaurants located. However, a few things that can be improved. I went to the gym at 6 am, and no one there. However, AC wasn't turned on. So, after 20 minutes of intense workouts, you'll be drenched with sweat. No towel inside the gym was available. Bring your own from your room and bottle water as well. Maintenance and house keeping can be improved. I visited my sister who stayed on the 7th fl executive suite, and there was a hole in the curtain. And the room could use more deep cleaning. The bed sheets in my room can be replaced with the one without hole in it. With the years, some of the amenities could be replaced.

This hotel has the worst service I've ever experienced. And the front desk, FENI. and the manager ANIE are the worst people I've ever encountered in hospitality industry.(photos attached). My experience was, I came with two other people. Booked and paid two rooms for 3 days 2 nights. Check in process, the front desk lady isn't even warm at all. Very rude. And she asked for deposit. And I said I got no cash so I will just go in the room first, and waiting for my other friend to arrived from the airport to just pay the deposit later upon their arrival. She rudely said NO. I asked nicely but she again said NO. She said I just need to wait, or use my credit card. And because her attitude was already HORRIBLE, I then refused to go along with her request. She then added ”You're from the big city, impossible you have no money”. Unbelievable. Long story short, I asked for the manager and surprisingly, the manager is no help either. She even more rude. Once she said ”you got no cash? People from big city must have credit card right?” Yet I still asked for help and understanding to pay in a couple hours. She said ok, (rudely) asked for ID card of three of us until we pay the deposit. Then I agreed. But because I left my wallet at home, I gave her my passport. And she touched the passport and said rudely ”I don't want this, I want ID card!”. I don't understand how she doesn't consider passport is a legitimate government ID. Then we decided to better leave and book another hotel instead staying at this already HORRIBLE hospitality. They also doesn't want to give us refund. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. DONT STAY
