One of the advantages is that it is located close to the road, which avoids long walks with luggage through the ups and downs of the small town (which are many, believe me) since car traffic is very restricted. It is worth noting the kindness and availability of Salvério, the manager, with tips on tours and meals in the town! I didn't give it the highest rating because the pillows weren't as comfortable as everything else (a minor detail, as I said before). I recommend it!

|0.36km from city centerWe had a wonderful time at La Suite. It was a last minute switch from a luxury hotel too far out of town. We were so lucky to have found la Suite. It was a great location just off the pedestrian area, easy to walk anywhere, the Sassi entry points and the many good restaurants in Matera. Particularly handy in the recurrent rain we faced. The staff were very friendly and helpful in suggesting restaurants etc. Its a great base in Matera. Only hiccup was a bit slow breakfast on the last day when they didn't have many guests and everyhing had to be pre-ordered and a slight miscommunication on the laundry - it showed up finally. All in all a lovely place.

Although the English is not very fluent, she patiently explained to us the usage of various facilities in the room. The facilities in the room are very complete, with air conditioning, refrigerator, TV, various kitchen utensils and so on. I feel that there is no problem living here for a while. Recommend everyone to come here to settle down!

This isn't a ”bells and whistles” place; this is stepping back in time and experiencing life sleeping in a very beautiful, immaculate and stylish cave. Basiliani is a cave hotel with all the amenities of modern day, yet entrenched in the history of a world where people actually lived in caves until the mid 1950s. What a true archeological treasure. Matera is beyond belief in its beauty and history. I was awe struck by its views, especially when lit up at night, and this hotel fit beautifully into the scenery. The beds were extremely comfortable, shower had great water pressure which I couldn't quite even understand how possible amongst the rocky landscape, and the air conditioner kept everything super comfortable. The included breakfast was delicious and had something for everyone, including vegetarians. Most of all, I have to say how lucky Basiliani Hotel is to have Roberto working with them. He is a true treasure, and one of the most kindest and caring people I have come across in a long time. Nothing was beyond him, and he genuinely wanted us to have the most enjoyable stay. I would go back in a heartbeat. What a wonderful place to stay. Highly recommend.

La stanza era pulita e confortevole, il bagno completo di tutto il necessario. La posizione del B&B è tra le più vicine alla zona storica della città e abbiamo avuto modo di gustare la nostra visita concedendoci anche una breve pausa prima di cena per poter poi ammirare lo spettacolo dei Sassi illuminati . A colazione c'era ampia scelta sia di prodotti dolci che salati. Insomma un'esperienza più che soddisfacente.

It is excellent the manager's readiness to quickly solve the small forgets of the structure I had to mention.
B&B structure with several single rooms, where I stayed was number 2.
The opposite of the structure was the smell of muffa at the entrance which fortunately did not rise up in the room.
A very narrow scale is not suitable for people with deambulation problems or with very large and heavy baggage.
No Armadi or similar to support your own things.
Loft of the bathroom and bedroom (People above 1.75 must be folded).
I haven't enjoyed the TV and the boiler and the hot coffee machine, so I will not give any feedback.
I didn't enjoy their parking for payment, I agreed to park on the blue stripes (payment via easypark app).

At the reception we were welcomed by a lady who was top friendly and super professional at the same time. When we checked in, we immediately felt warmly welcome. We were given valuable tips for our stay in the city, and we were also helped to book a table for dinner when seats in the restaurants were scarce because of the weekend. The spacious rooms have a creative design. At the same time, they are very homely. Everything is absolutely clean. The beds are comfortable with pleasant pillows. Air conditioning and rain shower are of course also part of the great equipment. At breakfast, we were equally welcomed by brilliant staff who complemented the rich, high-quality buffet with perfect service. We will be back!

C'è anche l'area colazione e un bagnetto di cortesia (con una seconda doccia). La suite è bellissima, anzi per il prezzo pagato (100€) è sublime. Sebbene la suite è scavata nella roccia non c'è nessun odore di umidità (avevo già alloggiato in ALTRA struttura scavata nella roccia di Matera riscontrando odore di umidità). Cortese e gentile il proprietario che ci ha anche permesso di fare il check-out in ritardo sebbene la ragazza delle pulizie era già lì. La colazione si fa in stanza, dove sono presenti fette biscottate, marmellate, nutella, macchina per il thè caldo, varie bustine di thè, succhi di frutta, latte e brioche confezionate. Unico appunto: manca la macchina del caffè con una cialda a testa (anche se il titolare ce l'ha proposto sia al check-in sia al check-out).

We had a rental car and they made a reservation at a secure garage about 15 minutes from the BnB for our two night (can't drive inside Matera-- only cars w. permits are allowed). Cost was 20 euro/day- cash payment. Free shuttle arrived right on time and was a flawless transfer. We interacted mostly with Veronica, who was a great host-- providing restaurant recommendations and calling to book us reservations for both nights. The room is wonderful! Truly a cave, but a small window in the bathroom and larger window at the front to let in light. The renovation of the room was great-- as is the character of the entire city-- wow, it was a magical couple of days-- despite the 37 degrees heat! The breakfast each morning was tasty-- with sweet and savoury options- all delicious and served on the terrace in the shade, with a perfect view of the sassi surrounds. We really enjoyed walking around exploring the city and learning about its interesting history. You will not be dissappointed!

SCARSA OSCURAZIONE: La persiana non è oscurante e manca una tenda adeguata, quindi la luce entra già dalle prime ore del mattino, disturbando il riposo. 2. NO COMFORT DEL LETTO: Il letto è piccolo per due persone e rigido, nonostante un topper. Quest'ultimo è realizzato in un materiale plasticoso che risulta poco confortevole e irritante. 3. BAGNO: Il bagno è ricavato direttamente nella stanza, separato solo da una porta scorrevole esterna difficile da aprire e chiudere, con privacy pressoché inesistente (VEDI FOTO) 4. ASSENZA DI ARMADIO: Non è presente un armadio, ma solo un appendiabiti in un angolo della stanza, scomodo per organizzare gli indumenti (VEDI FOTO) 5. PROBLEMI DI CLIMATIZZAZIONE: Abbiamo soggiornato a ottobre 2024, e la stanza (n. 6) era fredda. Il condizionatore non funzionava adeguatamente e il riscaldamento non era ancora attivo. 6. PARCHEGGIO : La stanza affacciava su una strada rumorosa, rendendo difficile il riposo, e il parcheggio in zona è difficoltoso da trovare. 7. INSONORIZZAZIONE ASSENTE: La struttura non garantisce insonorizzazione interna. Le porte e le finestre sono prive di qualsiasi isolamento acustico, e si sentono i rumori provenienti da altre stanze e dal personale della struttura, che non rispetta gli orari di silenzio e dagli altri eventuali ospiti presenti. 8.PHON ROTTO E PERICOLOSO: Il phon della stanza era rotto e pericoloso, con parti aperte da cui fuoriuscivano fili (vedi foto) 9. ASSENZA DI SERVIZI AGGIUNTIVI: La struttura è un affittacamere senza colazione e senza reception (check-in e check-out sono da remoto), offrendo un’esperienza impersonale, quindi si consiglia di valutare anche tale aspetto nella valutazione della convienza. CONCLUSIONE: Soggiorno deludente. La struttura è rigida negli orari e manca di flessibilità o attenzione verso il cliente. Non è consigliata, poiché non offre il minimo comfort e le carenze strutturali e gestionali non sono compensate né dalla cortesia né dalla disponibilità del personale.

It’s a convenient location, with supermarkets and gas stations nearby and close to the highway too. The place is great, an old building with lots of history behind that was renovated and converted into a hotel/guest house, with a beautiful outdoor pool and garden. Unfortunately, I found the management very inexperienced - except for Enzo at reception, who went above and beyond our expectations from the day we arrived, offering plenty of good suggestions for places to visit, restaurants and shops and always ready to help and make us feel welcome. The rest of the staff is either very young or does not seem prepared for the task they are up to. They also have a restaurant inside, managed by other owners, where we did not have a good experience at all. We had dinner there one evening. The food options were very limited (and did not reflect that was on the menu), the food was average and the service seemed improvised. When we paid the waiter summed up our bill with a manual calculator and couldn’t even remember the prices of the dishes in the menu (he was looking at a hard copy of it) - something I found hilarious and have never seen before! Also, bad price-quality relation - you can get something much better for better price in Matera. Overall, OK rooms and apartments, although not perfectly clean, and OK breakfast too. However, I would not go back to this Masseria as I am sure there are better places in Matera for the same price. A pity considering the beautiful location they have!

There are three individual guest rooms (we saw all three, and each one is massive, especially when compared to hotel rooms in Italy) with ensuite bathrooms. Our room, New York (the other two are London and Paris), was on the top floor of the apartment, so we enjoyed privacy and solitude, plus the added bonus of a private balcony area, complete with a sun lounger. Livingstone is bright, modern, and impeccably clean. Miriam obviously takes great pride in Livingstone, and is certainly passionate about providing the absolute best experience possible for each and every guest. The photos are 100% accurate, and reflect what you see and experience when staying at Livingstone. Livingstone is conveniently located less than a three minute walk (two right turns, then down the hill) to the town square, where you'll enjoy magnificent views down to the Old Town historic area of Matera. If ever my wife & I return to Matera, we will absolutely definitely stay at Livingstone again.

The room was great with lights along the very tall ceiling. The breakfast room very nice with a large selection of items. We parked our car at their other property outside the old town and they picked us up with the hotel shuttle. It was easy and convenient. The hotel staff made many suggestions for sightseeing and dinner and arranged for a James Bond tour for us. The only downside was that the room was cold and the heating system was not able to warm it up. They told us the the ceiling being so hight the heat get to the ceiling and the room stays cold. The first night I froze all night but the second night I asked for a duvet and a space heater and it solved the problem. We didn't use the spa or the on-siite restaurant because we were too tired but it looked great. We would definitely return to this hotel if back in Matera.

I needed to book the hotel last minute (like literally the previous night), so seeing an old-looking building (probably constructed in the 1980s) was not really encouraging BUT I wanted to see Matera, so I went ahead. The hotel surprised me and by a lot. First of all - yes, the building is old BUT all inside is renovated, so all is great. The rooms are good in size (not too small at all, just right) and everything is very clean. You have a full minibar if you want something and the hotel has a working restaurant and staff at reception 24/7. The breakfast is phenomenal (like, literally anything any traveler could want) and the staff are helpful and friendly. The best thing about the hotel is the location. Basically, there is no other hotel in Matera which is closer to the Sassi and the historical center. You just need 5 minutes of slow walking (entrance to the old town square is just behind the hotel :) ) and you are at the viewpoint and the cistern. There is a vending machine for snacks and drinks just less than 10 minutes away down the street from the hotel (in the old town) and any sights and amazing places to eat are within the same 5-10 minute distance. If you want to see the historical center of Matera, this is the place to stay (you won't regret it, trust me!). The hotel is very popular with Italians visiting Matera, so keep that in mind and if you are not travelling solo, like me, better book in advance :) The prime location comes with a single downside and a few things to consider (listing them here as they are just things to keep in mind and not something that is a huge issue) - the proximity to the Sassi means you will be quite far away from the bus station (3 kilometers) and the train station (1.5 kilometers). The distance is not that much BUT it is an uphill slope 90% of the time, so if you have a lot of luggage, better take a taxi. I loved it, so there is nothing I can put my finger at as a bad things, really, I just want to continue what I started above with the things you should keep in mind when visiting. If you come by car, make sure to notify the hotel in advance, as it is within a restricted parking area and parking lots are limited. Also be aware that the hotel is busy (as I said, very popular with Italians visiting) and check-in starts at 15.00, so if you come in earlier than that, you may need to wait. The staff would do anything they can to accommodate you early, BUT if you plan on arriving before noon, better notify them, to get your room ready. The hotel also have luggage storage, just so you know. Did I say I loved it? Just to repeat I can't wait to return!

Sicurezza ancora di più se pensiamo che l’ingresso in piscina e il rientro in camera lo fai dalle scale di emergenza quindi qualsiasi persona può accedere anche alle camere perché le porte non sono allarmate… Ma è un habitué di questa struttura occupare il passaggio delle porte di emergenza(allego foto) Le camere hanno bagni rotti e sporchi infatti ne abbiamo cambiate 3 di stanze perché i bagni erano impresentabili e con pezzi di muro e sanitari staccati. Do choose the suites, they really are worth the extra price. They were all booked for our second night and so we had to move to a standard room and it wasn’t as great.
