Westgate Hotel
Oxford | 0.13km from Oxford
This hotel self rates as 2 stars - room was small, no bath, small sink, desk, only stool no chair. Nothing else. Shared bath. If you are on tight budget & this is what you want, then it’s ok. Conveniently located by train station. Negatives: internet was unacceptably slow. Carpets in common areas dirty and need a deep clean. A paint job would make common areas more presentable. Stairs extremely narrow and steep. Continental breakfast included; staff friendly, helpful except for one grumpy individual.

River Hotel

Despite having a really good location, the hotel let itself down for a number of reasons. We booked a room only option as one of us is not able to eat a full meal in one go so breakfast was not going to be for us. We stayed in room 15 for one night. Firstly, despite the online booking platform saying parking was included in the rate, because we had opted for room only rather than bed and breakfast, on check-in, we were asked to pay an additional fee for parking. This was not made clear when booking. There was an attempt to persuade us to purchase breakfast for a discounted rate, but we were asked to decide there and then on check-in which was not an option for us. Other problems included only having one hand towel and one bath towel, even though the booking was made for two people. When it can to showering, the water was barely lukewarm; certainly not hot enough to shower under during cooler weather. Additionally, the sensor lighting in the hall outside the room door was faulty meaning the light kept switching on and off throughout the night. The gaps in the room door were such that the light would clearly illuminate the room, making it difficult for a light sleeper to get a restful night. The decor is dated, the bathroom a bit tatty and needing a good lick of paint and pillows were rather lumpy. Overall, a rather disappointing experience from what was essentially a bed and breakfast place, trading on its good location as a hotel. Its marketing pictures do not portray its reality. The only positive, and surprising thing was the existence of an ‘honesty’ bar which was welcome after an evening out in the town centre.

Royal Oxford Hotel

This hotel is in a great location, close to the train and bus stations. The check-in people were very friendly and let us leave our suitcases when we arrived before check-in time. They gave us a helpful detailed map of the major sights to see. When we returned to check in, they had already put our suitcases in our room upstairs. Our room was quiet and clean and came with a fan. The staff also let us store a sandwich in their refrigerator. Overall, a great stay for a reasonable price. I would definitely stay there again.

The Porterhouse Grill & Rooms

very nice boutique hotel with a good bar and restaurant below. The room nice, clean, minimalist but good furniture and decent shower. Only one complaint - if you are not a fan of capsule coffee (and I am definitely not) and you just want a cup of tea, it's a pain to have to google the coffee machine to work out how to use it when just a simple kettle would have been fine. Just 4 for the location because of the chaos at the Botley road bridge which is going on till this time next year at least! Lovely breakfast menu with good service.

Obviously I didn't book a barrier-free room. I didn't take a shower and the entire bathroom was wet. I almost slipped. The sheets were laid out randomly, the pillows were uncomfortable, and the mattress was too soft. The hygiene was okay.
Outside the room is a river and a castle

I played in Oxford for two days, because it was three people, so the choice was not so much, so I decided to make it. The room was clean and tidy, but the faucet was leaking, and the chandelier inside was also bad. There was a door in the room that could not be closed. But in general, the price is reasonable, the location is convenient, two minutes walk to the city center, the train station is less than ten minutes, but the hotel entrance is very small, on the street, you must carefully look at the signs posted at the door to find, service staff Is a little brother, very good attitude, but also help with luggage. If you are pursuing a good environment, it is not recommended, but if you travel short distances and many people, it is okay.

This is the nicest hotel I’ve stayed around Oxford and I’ve been coming for nearly 4 years taking my daughter here to university, the room was excellent large and lots of tea and coffee plus a fridge , plenty of buses into Oxford and the cabs very overly expensive around the £12 mark , highly recommended
I required somewhere to stay that would be local to an early appointment that i had on Monday 13th November. Having searched local B&B's etc and checked out a number of reviews The Conifers Guest House appeared to fit the bill. The booking was through *********** and once confirmed i was also advised that my room on the day had been upgraded. The room was ground floor to rear of the main property namely Number 10. Unfortunately the room central heating did not work and hot water took an age to come through. The room upgrade was in fact what i would call a family room with a single and double bed plus a kitchenette so all in all large enough for a single person stay. The only heating i could find was that of a small oil filled radiator and took some hours to warm the room up. Unfortunately the toilet and shower cubicle room was very cold. The room overall requires updating at best but as a single man staying just one night it was just about tolerable. If this was a free upgrade it leaves me wondering what was i upgraded from ???
I was recommended to come to this place and it was the best decision ever!! Place was lovely and food was more than great!! I came with my mum and a friend and my mother was the whole dinner saying that the food was more than great!! Which I’m really happy to make that decision. Also just to mention how great and helpful was Alfonso with his recommendations and his knowledge about the plates and allergies and how Kasam was making amazing cocktails that he also choose for us. I will come again for sure!!
The only good thing about the tower house is the location, very central for everything. But it goes downhill from there, managers are non existent, very difficult to get hold of by phone and extremely rude and uncaring. The photos on their sites are of the two rooms they keep tidy for publicity and even they are not great. We arrived and had to phone, took several attempts for them to answer, they gave us code to keybox, let ourselves in, totally unmanned reception so had to phone again about which room we were in as no one was there. We were told that two rooms shared a bathroom which would have been ok but in reality The only bathroom is on the top floor with four flight of stairs and shared between 6 other rooms! So as you can imagine it was terrible to try and use the shower/ toilet as it was always occupied but we didn't really want to use it as it was so dirty with mould, mildew etc. We were in The little blue room, a small double but it wasn't a double bed but a queen size one so very small. There was a sink in a very dark alcove with no light as it was broken. The room itself was very dirty, stained carpet and bedding, dirty curtains, marks on walls, holes in the walls, large mark on one wall with holes where the bed head had been fixed to wall! Overall a very unkempt dirty room. The whole house had a feeling of disrepair, neglect, dirty, as if the owners couldn't be bothered. So sad to see a grade II listed building kept in such a condition. Feel that they just wanted peoples money and are uncaring of the condition of the house. We were not the only ones with similar complaints and concerns about broken and dirty rooms. When we complained we were told that it you don't like it then leave! We are writing to Oxford council ref the state of a listed building and the owners attitude towards visitors and contacting the other sites where they are listed to make people aware.
I am rating this five stars because of the price point. Oxford is a very expensive city, and I was able to stay five nights on quite a restricted business budget in July. My room was clean and the location is near to Oxford Station. There are some quibbles: i) The room had no desk or sofa even though it was a good size. This was fine because I was travelling alone, but it meant that I had to work on the bed. ii) There is no staffed reception. You get texted a code to the back door before you arrive. After that, you pick up keys to your room and front door from the dining room table. I did not get this text (I was booked in through work) but there were telephone numbers on the front door to ring. It all works fine, but the feeling of never meeting a staff member (and no-one being in charge) is a little bit odd. iii) Breakfast is basic. It is served on a single large table in buffet style and everyone sits around it. This was a bit OTT for a misanthrope like me. iv) I think some of the rooms are better than others. There are some near the front door which are probably a little bit on the noisy side. v) There is no air con, although there are fans. Again, this is normal for the price point. I do recommend it though. It is good value, clean, and my room was nice.
We stayed here for one night in a family room as this was the only room available. We wanted somewhere with parking so this was one of the few hotels that came up for the area. We arrived early so there was ample parking. (There are 5 spaces at the front of the building) Check in wasn't until 2pm but one of the workers took us through to reception and we were able to check in 2 hours early which was great! The hotel is on a quiet street and approximately a 10 minute walk from the Jericho area which has several pubs and restaurants. It was around 15-20 minutes to the City centre. The room was a little dated but really spacious and clean. The bathroom was large and more modern. There was tea and coffee making facilities, an iron & board. Our only ”complaint” is the lack of a mini fridge in the room. Breakfast was really nice. Continental with lots of choices, and hot options such as eggs, beans, hash browns with toast. The information said there was vegan / veggie options but I didn't ask due to time. The staff were all friendly and helpful. If we were to return to Oxford, we would definitely stay at this hotel again. Thanks for our stay.

Why give full marks, first we arrived, there are staff enthusiastically help us with luggage, we live on the 3rd floor, the room is large up and down, the front desk staff is very warm to help us park, breakfast is free and paid, pay attention, If you don’t choose breakfast on the order, don’t be afraid. He also has breakfast for everyone. It is bread ham cheese milk coffee tea juice. This is free. The location is very convenient. It takes 8 minutes to walk to Christ College, which is the Harry Potter Magic Canteen. Go to the Ashmolean Museum within 15 minutes. Super convenient! The picture is a two-point paid breakfast, 13 yuan.
