DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!! I stayed at the OYO Dayz Away Lodge just for one night as I was visiting family in the area and this place was the closest to the party. As soon as I walked into the entrance of the hotel I instantly thought “oh my god… what have I done” but seeing as it was only one night I thought I could grin and bare it. I was greeted by an eastern European guy who was manning reception, he gave me my key and told me to my amazement how busy the hotel was (that was the first lie). As I walked down to my room the smell of cigarettes and **** hit me, then as I turned the corner to my room I found a empty drug wrapper on the floor. Anyway I didn’t let any of this phase me as I just wanted to get some sleep… my room wasn’t too bad, very dated but had new carpet, most of the handles were falling off all the furniture, bathroom was clean but had a mild damp smell. Anyway I got my head own and had a relatively good night’s sleep but woke up to an empty wallet (which I knew I had £120 In when I got to my room) and a very expensive watch stolen which was my fathers, who has recently passed away. Before I got into bed I had left these items on the bedside table which was literally inches away from my head so the thief clearly had the audacity and experience in doing this before! I cannot tell you how utterly speechless I was when I woke up to find I had been robbed in my sleep!! After throwing a pair of jeans on I headed to reception and as I walked along the various corridors I found the new member of staff who was working the day shift going through other rooms… I actually walked passed him as I thought he was maybe one of the other guests as he looked so scruffy and border line homeless. I told the member of staff what had happened and he did his best “shocked face” possible, saying that this stuff never happens but I could clearly see this was not the case! He called his manager and just said sorry that all I can do! Utterly disgraceful!!! No one from the hotel has called me back or contacted me!! I instantly called and reported this to the police but as always they never do anything unless you can hand it to them on a plate…. I just cannot believe these After reporting this to reception I walked back to my room to collect my luggage and noticed that several doors to the rooms do not shut or close properly!! And on closer inspection it looks as if the doors have been doctored not to close (see pictures). From just the short walk back to my room I found 5 doors which didn’t close unless banged shut. I also walked around all of the corridors and nowhere could I find any security cameras – ZERO CCTV!!! How convenient. Since having this happen to me I have been reading other people’s reviews on various websites and this kind of incident has happened serval times recently, with people having thousands of pounds stolen and personal items. The Himley House is a local restaurant and bar that I use for formal and informal business meetings. Regularly sat in the bar, you notice the welcoming attitude of the staff to all visitors. The restaurant is busy due to the quality of the food, but never seems overly loud or distracting. The bar area is perfect for a quick catch up and the staff are so welcoming of all visitors. The hotel itself was fine, but unfortunately there isn’t anywhere I can find to write a review about the breakfast or evening meal provision. Couldn’t fault the friendliness of the staff in either the hotel or the restaurant, oh hang on, they are the same people.! Which again makes sense, until you find out that the waitresses are actually cooking as there are no chefs, I presume with no health and safety or food prep training. Due to time constraints as we were attending a gig, we thought we would pop to the on-site restaurant for dinner, there was only one other couple in there besides us on a Friday night at 7 pm. Maybe that says it all? The food took 40 minutes to arrive despite there being no other customers and the pictures attached demonstrate that all they serve is slop. In the end we didn’t have breakfast in the restaurant we popped over to the Aldi across the road and had to buy yoghurts and fruit and ended up having that in our room instead. On passing I asked one of the staff if they would eat in there - they said no!

We stayed in a triple room 1st November, which I thought I had booked a family but hadn't. When we arrived, which was late after a 5-hour journey. We went to find our room as we walked down the corridor to a very strong smell of ****. As we got to our room the smell was unbearable. I took a very quick look around to open a window. The window was already open so I went to shut it but it would not shut as the windows are so old. I went downstairs to tell the reception staff to which they said, the management were coming but they didn't while I waited. The young man said he didn't know what he could do. Then he said someone had checked out early, so give him 10mins to clean a room. Which I said no as a room can't be cleaned that quick. By then I said I'll go back up to see my husband and young son while I waited for the manager. my son wanted a bath and bed, no chance he was getting in that bath though!. As we looked around the room was not clean, there was dirt all behind the sink, the bath was filthy, there was wallpaper hanging off the wall and the cobwebs were everywhere. The wifi code also didn't work. With the window not shutting properly and the blind that has a massive gap too. I went down stairs to which a very young girl was on the desk and she hardly spoke and didn't have a clue what was happening. I said we are staying in the room as we were shattered and didn't want to mess around any longer the only thing that was clean was the beds. I made the point that I was disappointed with hotel and wouldn't be back. There was no apology she just shrugged her shoulders and said OK! We went to bed after a really long drive, my son got in his bed to nearly rolled out with the floors being so uneven, he slept with me in the end. Not a great sleep. We could still smell **** in the morning. Not great with a child. We got up early to check out, with no one to see us just before 9am on check out. It's a shame as this could have been a place we would stay regularly as we have family now close by. A good clean and tidy and it could have been a lovely room with its old features. Poor customer service and very poor room.
