|1.75km from city centerThe Golden Tulip chain of hotels renovated this venue a couple of months ago, and created a very efficient, modern and comfortable hotel, very suitable for business and en-route stays. It's located next to the autoroute from Aix-en-Provence to Lyon. Downtown Aix is about a 10 mins. drive. The beds (as in all Golden Tulip hotels) are amongst the most comfortable we've ever slept in! Bathroom modern and efficient. The staff consist of mostly young, enthusiastic people with a modern attitude to service. Definitely a hotel that differs itself positively from the standard en-route French hotel-style! The restaurant should be upgraded somewhat. The menu is limited and as downtown is a bit out, guests should be able to have a bit more choice in the menu.

|0.32km from city centerBeautiful hotel , perfect location in an old former monastic building round the corner from the main avenue Cour Mirabeau, within walking distance of the stations and info as well as the gorgeous galleries, museums and buildings of the old town. Very kind and helpful staff. Because of the Rugby World Cup the hotel was unusually full at that time of year and we could not stay as long as we wished. So it was difficult to book even with kind help from Reception, and some slight confusion of our emails meant that we arrived to a double room instead of twin beds. But this was changed right away and we had a lovely room, quiet with a sunny window view over rooftops. The only letdown was the breakfast, poor for the price and with uncomfortable (though doubtless expensive) chairs -- so go and eat at any of the other cafes nearby in preference. Sadly we may be too embarrassed to return to this excellent small hotel, because of our own mistake in thinking we had booked for an extra day. We returned from sightseeing to find that the staff had had to empty our room for another guest.. They obligingly rang another hotel for us to spend the extra night, and we hope they have forgiven us!

|0.88km from city centerVery comfortable hotel, everything worked ok in the room, tv, kettle, fridge, shower with good hot water. Everything was very clean and convenient. It also had a kitchenette with pans, pots, cutlery and crockery. Hotel is located right at the heart of the Village, walking distance to everything!. Special thanks to the reception staff that were super nice and Friendly. I stayed in Room 207, where there was zero noise from the street. Thanks!.🙂

|1.39km from city centerThis hotel is a tourist trap. The management is careless and the hotel is all together lacking TLC! There's is an ongoing construction on the site which was supposed to be far away from the room booked but in reality it was so close that the drilling was ongoing from morning on. Rooms poorly cleaned, bathtub and windows filthy. Check the photo of the hole in a door inside the room & the loose hook. Really ?? The garden, which is supposed to be the main attraction of the hotel was also not on top of its game. Minimal gardening done. One couldn't sit or lie down in the garden. All of the mats of the day beds and seat cushions of chairs were wet and partly dirty. Unbelievable. All together a never come back experience..

|6.27km from city centerWe left London at 11 am by Eurostar and was in The Chateau by 7.30 pm local time: earlier if we had acquired the mechanics of Uber sooner. What a beautiful place and part of France Aix is - even more so, I would imagine, in the height of summer. Despite autumn leaves falling it is a charming, relaxing, quiet chateau 15/20 mins from the station/town centre:(£12-16). Don’t be intimidated by the adjacent major road/motorway, once inside the gates peace & tranquility awaits! If you’re not in Provence ‘to tour’ I suggest registering with Uber: most efficient & cost effective. Our amicable and knowledgeable hosts, Clement & Sarah, have four spacious bedrooms on the first floor for guests. Breakfast was always delightful and plentiful – you never know what interesting guests you may meet....and of course the lugubrious boxer-dog, Jax: appearing unexpectedly for your company, one cannot but warm to him. The Chateau is steeped in family history that Clement is always willing to share with you; its extensive gardens invites exploration. Do spend an afternoon “chilling” in the square in the nearby village. An afternoon and an evening meal in Aix old town is also highly recommended. We were here for a short autumn break (5 nights which flew by) and thoroughly enjoyed it; so much so that we will revisit again in the summer months.

|0.42km from city centerI was travelling alone and as such was a little more aware of feeling safe and secure. I was greeted so warmly at this hotel, and each time I passed by reception, Sophie or Laurent made a point to speak with me, engage me in conversation, ask me about my day. On a trip that was sometimes a little lonely, this was especially welcome. I'd requested a superior room and was very pleased with the amenities and especially with the bathroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was very quiet, and the air conditioning was a welcome respite from the heat wave gripping France while I was there. The beautiful, quiet upper outdoor deck was a lovely space to get away from the bustle of the streets (Although La Rochelle is not particularly large, it is a popular tourist destination for French people so it was a bustling little town! But I want to be sure to specify that the hotel itself is on a quiet plaza and the immediate area is a few blocks removed from all of the hubbub.) I'd return here again without question and recommend it without reservation.

|9.22km from city centerCatastrophique !

|8.46km from city centerUnexpectedly nice! We came to this hotel for one night because it's near the TGV station and we'd been unable to get into our hotel in Aix's old town until next day... This hotel turned out to have really comfortable well decorated modern rooms, excellent helpful staff and very generous extras: such as unlimited free mineral water and croissants in the hall, and free beer for anyone who didn't want to watch the rugby world cup in the restaurant/bar. (I should add that the hotel was quiet and so were the guests). A real effort has been made with the small landscaped garden and play areas, the swimming pool was clean and pleasant even though it was the end of the season, and the outlook very green over the golf course. The breakfast was absolutely the best I have ever had in France, with real French cheeses instead of the usual processed stuff, and fresh fruit and proper patisseries as well as eggs (and the meat was doubtless good too). The location was the main flaw for guests like us wishing to avoid using a car. It is a short taxi ride from the TGV station, but a half-hour bus journey to Aix proper through anodyne business areas. The other flaw - which wouldn't affect the sports fans or young families with cars who seem to be the usual guests - was the incredibly tiny bath. Sadly I fell trying to get out of that bath and am still dealing with the injury. I must add that we had come back again at very short notice for one further night, and again the staff were excellent and so was the room in all other respects...I should have used the shower that night instead!

|0.58km from city centerExceptionally different from any hotel I have ever stayed in. There ia a true sense of living in mediaeval times when you stay here as it's like living in a noble- man's house. High ceilings, walls adorned by famous paintings, old furniture and mediaeval curtains. Our room also had modern comforts of excellent Aircon, good lighting, reasonable WIFI and French TV. The bed was large and comfortable. It was a real novelty staying here as it is a hotel you will remember for its unique character.. Great value, too. However, there are a couple of things to be aware of........ 1. It's biggest weakness is there is no safe in the room This was a real worry for us as we had to carry our passports, cash, credit cards, all valuables for four days. This has to be rectified!! 2. The glass door at the entrance needs a safety ***** across it as it is almost invisible to see. I nearly went face first into it a couple of times A health and safety hazard! 3. Hand- held Shower Nozzle. As a rule, I don't like using them. At the Cardinal, the problem is that the shower nozzle has no resting place. 4. For a mobility- challenged person, there is no hand- rail for support.Putting in a hand- rail would be a great support for disabled guests. However in the final analysis, we loved this hotel with its mediaeval character and would love to time- travel to it again!!

|0.69km from city centerWe recently spent four nights here and i can't rave enough! We made reservations primarily based on reviews we read here and we thought the hotel was even better. We were traveling as a family with our teenage daughter and booked the junior suite which was perfect. A large room by European standards and it was perfect. We had a fold out twin bed and we could move around the room with it open. The location was great - close enough to everything but not overrun by street noise and busy crowds. We walked to dinner every night and one restaurant was better than the next. We spend one day in Aix-en-Provence and did day trips the other days. There was so much to see and visit in the area but more about the hotel. The front desk staff were so nice and so helpful. Mostly younger but so attentive and helpful making reservations for us, changing tickets to a site we booked when our daughter wasn't feeling well and offering great suggestions. The breakfast was also a big hit. I would recommend getting it included. There is a beautiful outdoor garden to eat in. Plentiful food and great variety from bacon and eggs to a continental breakfast of pastries and fruit. Lastly, we booked the parking spot which was a big plus. It was a short walk from the lobby and it was great to not have to worry when we returned from our adventures about where to park. Can't recommend enough. We look forward to returning.

|0.71km from city centerI have been at Villa Gallici the first time and had to leave after three days to another hotel, due to some pre-reservations. Arrived at the other hotel, I missed Villa Gallici from the first second on. The staff is of incredible warmth and the place gives you the feeling of staying in a private house with the hosts really being interested in your thoughts and well-being rather than just seeing it as a job. I had the impression of true passion and the special and unique character of the house underline the impression. The location of the Villa is also exceptionally good and lets you walk to all major sights within approx. ten minutes, very convenient in a city like Aix, where most of the old town is restricted for cars. All in all it was a pleasant and positive surprising stay that I have not expected and I can’t wait to come back!!!

|0.96km from city centerThe Hotel in Aix en Provence was a disaster. It is nothing like the pictures make it out to be on Trip advisor or anywhere. These are taken by a professional well photoshopped and are long stretch away from what you see in the pics. The room for 3 does not have space for bags in the bedroom and barely any space to walk over to the other side of the bed..I would say max 1.5ft. Once the sofa bed is laid out in the living area, there is no way to move within the room at all. The arm rests of the sofa beds are black while the sofa itself is brown. No different in any other room. The room stank of smoke and the floor boards were shredding in some parts esp the toilet. We moved out within a couple of hours and stayed at another property in Provence. Don't spoil your vacation by staying here.

|1.21km from city centerThe hotel is a good choice for budgetminded travelers but it is somewhat distant from the center of the city. It took about a half hour to walk to the rotonde, which is the center of Aix. However, along the way to the rotonde are plenty of cafes, shops selling food, wine and bread. The route is pretty direct and leads directly to Cours Mirabeau, the main thoroughfare of Aix, You can take a taxi from the rotonde to the hotel for 8 Euros. Breakfast provided a nice selection of European breakfast choices and you could dine on the outside terrace on the days that it was open. The hotel didn't have laundry facilities, but there is a pressing service(dry cleaner) a short walk from the hotel on Gambetta that will do laundry. My personal biggest negative was that you have to climb a steep driveway and then some stairs to reach the entrance to the hotel. Although you can bypass the stairs by entering through the garage and taking a lift to the main floor, you still have to walk to reception at the entrance. If you're carrying luggage, either way it's a trek. I'm in my eighties, so at the end of a day of walking, climbing the hill was a chore. All in all not a bad choice.

|0.41km from city centerReally enjoyed our 3 night stay here. We had a room opening onto the lovely garden with our own terrace space. The room was spacious and stylishly decorated. An interesting broken plan layout which worked well The bed was very comfortable and there was a large shower with monsoon head with plenty of hot water. Mini fridge in the room was a nice touch The whole place had a considered, design conscious boutique feel to it - the staff were also really friendly and helpful. Short stroll to the old town so nice to pop back and enjoy the peace and quiet of the garden sometimes. We sorted our own breakfast as there's a good bakery nearby and it was nice to choose things and eat outside our room. Wish there were more hotels like this at this price point.

|0.32km from city centerWe stayed in the Suite which has a double bed and a single bed, the bathroom is huge with a spa bath and shower, there is a small walk in closet for hanging clothes, the bed is comfortable, the Suite is on the second floor above the busy street but the noise doesn't affect us and we notice the noise level dies down near midnight, never affected our sleep. Staff is relaxing and friendly, the whole place is an old house with wide stairs and high ceilings, May be grand house in the old days, you can open the big windows to get refresh air if you like. The breakfast room is very dull, food very bland, no ambience, don't eat there and there are a lot of eateries outside. Good location to walk to everywhere, we walked to the Atelier de Cezanne in around 30 minutes, around 10 minutes walk to Gare Aix-en-Provence, around 15 minutes walk to the bus station to catch coach to Gare Aix-en-Provence TGV. Will stay here again.

|0.76km from city centerNice staff but the street side room was not soundproofed. The noise from the first workers on the road at 6am was annoying. We had booked for 3 and the towels were for 2 people and the duvet for the 3rd bed was missing. I called reception and they quickly set up what was needed but at 11:00 in the evening I would have preferred to go to bed without having to call about it. It can happen, I understand. In the room there is 1 tea bag and 1 herbal tea but there were 3 of us, no bottle of water apart from those in the fridge (to be paid) The breakfast room in the hall without a real separation is not is not great. During breakfast we are on the door where customers come and go and we hear the calls from the reception staff... something should be done to properly separate and soundproof the spaces. For me it's not a 4 star. 3 stars max. Example of a different recent experience that I like: I was in Lille the previous weekend with my daughter for the same reason. University competition. In the Lille hotel (3 stars, Best Western)) when we arrived they offered to bring forward the Saturday breakfast time to 6:30 a.m. (usually at 7:00 a.m.) to give my daughter and other young people who were there for the same reason the possibility of having breakfast in peace given that the competition started at 8:00 a.m. They gave us a map of the city with directions to the exam center. Lots of attention to the customer, impeccable service, silent rooms, 2 bottles of water in the room on arrival and 2 herbal teas per person...in fact, it only takes a few details that don't cost much to make the difference.

|1.13km from city centerThis was our second stay at Villa Saint Ange, and I'm disappointed to say it will definitely be our last. We stayed here a couple years ago on our honeymoon, and while we had a few small issues with the service, the gorgeous grounds, immaculate room, and great location merited a return stay. Unfortunately, our return trip was much worse than the first. First, the good: the hotel is still gorgeous, and the pool is still lovely. The location is great - a short walk will bring you right to Cours Mirabeau. The restaurant is newly overseen by Pierre Gagnaire, and is still nice (though honestly no better than under the previous chef). We had two main issues this trip: our room, and the lack of service recovery when we had an issue with it. Our room was located at the front of the hotel overlooking the street. It was very nicely appointed, but as we learned at about 5-6am every single morning, it has a glaring issue: noise. Each morning, a symphony of garbage trucks, delivery vehicles, and other service vehicles absolutely bombarded our room with noise. While any room facing the street is likely a bit noisy, our room in particular was RIGHT above the hotel's loading bay, meaning 5am deliveries to the restaurant were unacceptably loud. The many antique floor-to-ceiling windows in the room were beautiful, but absolutely worthless noise insulators. We mentioned this issue to the staff, who seemed unsurprised by the complaint, and also offered nothing more than a fairly insincere apology. That said, it's not the responsibility of a hotel's receptionist to resolve hotel layout problems - it's the responsibility of management/ownership. This is not the only review to mention this issue, which means management/ownership knows this is a problem and simply does not care. This is also not an inexpensive room - it's actually a Superior category room, and thus commands a price of nearly $1,000/night. My advice to the owner of this hotel: this room cannot be a guest room. The location is not acceptable for a bedroom, and charging this much money for such a substandard room is a bad look. Convert the room to a library, parlor, utility closet - anything but a bedroom. Other consistent, easily-remedied feedback in guest reviews (most notably, lack of coffee maker in the rooms) has been ignored by management, so this likely will be as well.

|5.63km from city centerWhen we arrived there was no electricity. We were told that this would be remedied within fifteen minutes. In the end it took 3 hours. If we had been told right away that it was uncertain how long it would take, we would have left, because we came here to spend the night and eat for fun, not because it was necessary. But before we could start with the fun part my husband had a deadline for work. He spent 1.5 hours in the car working with a hotspot and the engine on, because we arrived with an empty computer. My advice for the next time this happens: contact the people who have booked a hotel room before they arrive, be honest enough that you don't know how long it will take and therefore give the option to cancel. However, no apologies were made, ‘it was just the way it was', the whole environment had the same problem, they couldn't help it. The food was okay, the girl in the restaurant who served us was super nice, the location, the hotel room all looked beautiful. When we went to sleep the music was still very loud, very audible in our hotel room. Really annoying. When I asked if it could be turned down, the response was 'No, this was normal over there’. When the music was still at the same volume at midnight and I went to the reception for the second time, really angry by now, there was finally a willingness to turn the music down. I think all the guests had left by now and the music was on for the staff themselves, all young & hip people. When we said on check out we weren't happy about our stay, the young guy at the front desk had no words, except that he wouldn't charge us for the dog. In short, a bad experience, for a high price :(€158 for a room without breakfast), without sorry, without compensation for the inconvenience. Apparently our experience was an exception because I mainly see positive reviews. But I would think choose to be either a party location or a hotel, and don't mix that up. And don't let your hotel be run by, excuse me, 'kids'. Or train them first in customer focus before you give them responsible positions.

|8.8km from city centerSome strong points: the air conditioning which works quite well, the location of the residence. On the other hand, the accommodation was dirty when we arrived: I reported it to reception (windows, toilets, smell of tobacco and dusty floor!): we were told sorry we are understaffed with no other solution... And it's impossible to have a vacuum cleaner because there simply isn't one! In addition, very few accessories in the accommodation. And a few more surprises: no outlet in the microwave housing, only one very dirty pan and the swimming pool closed at the end of the stay because supposedly an organism passed through and the water was not up to standard. In short, unless there is a major renovation program, we will look for another residence if we come back to the area.
