Armathwaite hall hotel A gem of an hotel situated in a quiet countryside location with views of Lake Bassenthwaite. The wide expanse of lawns to the front of the hotel provided opportunities for walking, exercising dogs, and for children to play. Without exception staff were efficient and friendly. Restaurant and Brasserie food was of a high standard. We found the Spa to be the jewel in the crown. Residents have access throughout their stay without having to book ahead. Access to children is limited to early in the day and late afternoon. Would recommend this magnificent hotel for a special event or an opportunity to just escape to a beautiful countryside retreat.

This hotel is modern in its facilities and decor, but very homely in its welcome and staff. We travelled with family who come regularly and clearly love to return. Service is an exceptional standard, friendly but not obsequious. Food is really excellent and worth coming for even if you are not staying with a menu that changes a little every night.

We have recently returned from a two night stay at the utterly fabulous 1692 Wasdale. Everything about our stay was simply perfect in every way. The informative welcome on arrival, our magnificent spotlessly clean room (Fells) with an amazing comfy bed, our tasty fulfilling breakfasts, the breathtaking views, the location, the incredibly hard working staff & the home made cake every afternoon was the icing on the cake! (Pardon the pun!) I cannot find one single negative to say about such a well run, beautiful establishment in a stunning part of the world. Special thanks to Faith, Lauren, Hayley and Juliette. They were all so helpful & friendly. We will definitely return in the future!

Lovely location for a Christmas break. All the staff were lovely and very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble no matter what the request. The breakfast was amazing with the lemon curd/marmalade being home made and to die for. Christmas lunch was a lovely unhurried affair although there was far too much for food for just two of us. Our room (Thirlmere) was pleasant, although the sink in the en-suite was a bit too close to the toilet and the water took ages to run hot. Loved the shower gel and handwash. We thought it was a bit of a stretch to be marketed as a spa hotel given that access to the pool and steam room is limited as these facilities are open to external members/schools. The only real downside was the pool as it looked tired and in need of of tlc and given we were there at the weekend it would have been nice not to have had restricted access. It would have been useful to have been informed that the steam room was out of action as well as that was something we were really looking forward to using. All things considered we would go back.

The mountain road to the hotel is very beautiful, and both dinner and breakfast are good. The room is slightly smaller.
