Just returned from a week's all inclusive. We upgraded to the adults only 'My Favourite Club' section as it was just 2 adults in our party and with it being half term, we expected it to be busy in the main area. Our room - 6222 - was fantastic. Clean and spacious with a decent sized balcony. Our hairdryer broke the 2nd night but we reported it to reception that night and it was fixed the following day so no complaints there! Food wise: separate quieter area in main restaurant for MFC customers or a separate restaurant with set menu. Breakfast - plenty of choice at both the main buffet and also at the MFC pool restaurant but added bonus of live cooking station at main buffet. Couldn't fault food. Lunch - we tended to use main restaurant as MFC pool restaurant didn't have a huge choice for a vegetarian. Dinner - we used the MFC restaurant when there was a vegetarian main on the menu and the food was lovely. Would have appreciated our drinks being refilled and maybe more choice of drinks. Other nights we went to the main buffet and thought the choice and quality was good. Queues could be long depending on times. Seems like everyone forms 1 queue rather than going from station to station. Vegetarian food was well labeled. We usually used the MFC bar upstairs from the restaurant or the bar by reception. The 2 waiters who served us in the MFC bar - Gabriel and Francis - are both a credit to the hotel and deserve a special mention. Fantastic service and both very friendly yet professional. AI drinks were adequate but a lot of drinks on the menu had an extra charge and there was only 1 non alcoholic cocktail. Wine was ok - rosé was nice, red wasn't great. We saw some of the entertainment and it was similar to other AI hotels we've been too. The live bands were great, the shows were family orientated and seemed popular. Location wise it was perfect for us. Not right in the busy centre, but walkable along the beach or by the road. We also walked towards the dunes in the other direction. Another day we got a taxi to the dunes which cost €8 - reception called us a taxi and there is a taxi rank by the Riu hotel by the dunes for the return journey. Sunset Lounge bar is directly opposite the hotel and has live music 5-7 nightly. Our only downside was the temperature of the MFC pools. They are heated from November but despite the lovely weather end of October they were still too cold to be enjoyable. This is probably the only thing that would keep me from returning at this time of year. Friends were at another hotel on the island which had heated pools and this would be a consideration for me another time. The small MFC pool with beds looked great but I went in once and lasted a couple of minutes! Other adult-only area hotels we've been to in the Canaries have had a jacuzzi/ whirlpool which has been great if the pools were cold. All in all, it is a lovely hotel - great staff, gardens, rooms and location.
Not usually a review writer but we have just returned from Alua Suites - family of 4 with 2 teenage children and just can't understand the negative reviews! Don't listen to these moaning people and Butlins it is most definitely not! This is a really family orientated hotel. We go on an all inclusive family holidays once a year and for the price and star rating, it's up there with the best we've been on. We are really tempted to return as the resort had everything. We were there in half term, it was busy but we always got a sunbed without getting up at stupid o'clock, we rarely had to queue at the bar, yes there was a queue at peak times at dinner sometimes but go earlier or later if want to avoid but you always had a clean table. Food well labelled for allergy sufferers, lots of choice, day and evening entertainment. Loads to do if want to explore the local area. If you look, you'll find signs of age or wear in some rooms but who sits in their room when there's a bright blue sky or an all inclusive bar.
