One of the places in all of England and Scotland where we were treated with utmost respect and hospitality. Bar none. Consistent. Welcome hosts were always sincerely friendly, never tired of answering questions and offering suggestions. The rooms are structurally solid, you could hear not a peep outside. The beds are firm yet comfortable, my best sleep in my whole vacation. Chocolate truffles and Tunnocks to welcome you. The bathroom tiles have the loveliest shade of emerald. Check out the dockyards too. Tour the engine rooms, tour the whole ship and imagine yourself as captain. The ship is beautifully restored. A pity she can’t move out of this berth, but she was a home for us for a few days. Breakfast is included, but not much to be desired, we preferred eating in town, which is just a quick walk outside. Chef and waitstaff are still the best nonetheless.
This is an excellent hotel and deserves its rank as No 1 hotel in Edinburgh. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It is conveniently located about 200 yards from the Port of Leith Tram Stop which connects it with the city centre and Edinburgh Airport. We had dinner on our first night and the food was fantastic (if a little expensive). The service was OK but could have been better. For example, it took over an hour from sitting down for our starters to arrive. This is not a a criticism of the staff because they were excellent but there simply weren’t enough staff on duty for such a busy restaurant.
