This was our third or fourth time staying at this hotel. We unexpectedly came on a busy weekend in Gettysburg. The issues began before we even left home. I checked my bank balance to be mindful of our budget and saw there was a $114 hold with no description, I called my bank immediately and was informed the hold was from the hotel. When we arrived, I asked about the hold and was told it was because they were at a certain capacity and only had a certain number of rooms left. So, they ran the hold to make sure we were coming with a valid card. Okay, so that’s fine. We checked in and went about our business. Friday I wake up and see I only have a minimal amount of money in my account. The amount for the hotel is pending and there is an addition $309.02 being held. I asked at the front desk, spoke to a manager and everyone said it was the bank. But that the hold should release in increments by day. So of course Saturday I expect money to be released. No. So, I called my bank and they told me that the hold is from the hotel’s end and there was nothing they could do. That it looks like someone made an error when I was checking in and while it will fall off, it won’t happen while I’m on the trip. So basically, with a good chunk of our budget being held up and no one being able to see where this hold was coming from, we had a miserable time. Had I known this would happen I would have brought my other card or took extra cash out from that account. In addition, I felt the night clerk on Friday was inconvenienced that I came downstairs to purchase frozen foods and then had a question about the breakfast on top of that.

Last year we stayed at this hotel, and all was OK. Based on this experience, this year we rented three rooms for a multi day family reunion at this location. Soon after arrival and several times per day and every day the keys to the rooms would not open the doors in three different rooms. We spoke to management and were issued new keys REPEATEDLY and seemingly hourly. The keys would not retain magnetization. This got VERY old for three families with children. The night clerk was the worst, she was absolutely obnoxious. My daughter needed to get in her room with a newborn to change his diaper. Of course her key would not work. The night clerk, on a social media app on her phone ignored her, when she finally came out, still on the phone, she kept saying to my daughter and into the phone, ”I'm gonna smile at you but not take care of you”, in a snide voice as the baby was screaming. UNACCEPTABLE! My son found two empty liquor bottles under his bed. Someone had lots of fun with Irish Whiskey, but, for us it was simply disgusting. When we got there the pool was unavailable due to someone vomiting in it...that happens, but, 2 days later my grand children were bullied in the pool when it was again operational. There were also discrepant rates charged for the rooms nightly. As frequent users of Comfort Suite Chain hotels we have always either used AAA or AARP discounts. We were told that only one rate could be used on one room one night at this hotel. We were notified of this after the fact. Literally, we got vastly different rates for rooms booked at the same time. This was not caught until checkout. The desk clerk could not/would not explain why. When we asked for a copy of the check in paperwork, that was refused as it was ”the property of the hotel”. Further, these matters could not be addressed except by the General Manager, SD, who never seemed to be available. SD was literally useless! despite repeated follow-ups. The matter was reported to corporate offices, the State of Pennsylvania and the Better Business Bureau. There are other lodging options in Gettysburg, and as a repeat customer, a frequent Comfort chain user, and frequent Trip Advisor reviewer, I would have to recommend you go elsewhere. It is simply NOT worth the hassle of dealing with the issues we faced. Travel is supposed to be enjoyed, the staff of this hotel basically did all they could do to not have that happen. Customer service with this franchise location is simply non existent. Check your bill, make sure you have your rates absolutely confirmed. Seriously consider another location.
