I stayed here twice in April & May 2023 and was consistently impressed with the staff & the property. The staff was very friendly, helpful, accommodating and very courteous. The deluxe room had a great view, was large, clean, modern and very comfortable all around. The buffet breakfast was excellent with good selection of Western and Pilipino dishes. And the table service was excellent—shout out to Ariel and staff for a very attentive service! I was also pleasantly surprised at the quality & selection of drink’s & pastries at the Cafe also punctuated by excellent service. The property has 3 great pools, a small private beach , picnic area & fitness center. For me the only service missing is the food room service but it’s a minor item for what I needed. The location is an about 30 min from Mactan airport in a secluded gated area. Getting here was through local neighborhood and inconvenient from other restaurants & services so you’re pretty much will be staying on the property unless you want to go out for a long drive. I paid 650 pesos for a Grab ride around noon time from IT park to Reef. I have been to many 5 star Western style resort hotels in US, Europe & Asia and Reef compares well especially if you can book a discounted room for less than $150 USD. Overall, I highly recommend the Reef Island Resort hotel and will return again when I’m in the area. Definitely a good value for the money and excellent staff.

As for communication, the hotel staff never mentioned that the restaurants were not part of the hotel but a separate venture. Therefore, the restaurant staff was never sure if you could order something on room charge or not. Furthermore, the menu selection was the same day after day and for vegetarians the offer was even more limited. On the other hand, the staff was always friendly and helpful, so you felt well treated. What was absolutely disappointing, however, was the behaviour of the staff towards the environment. After a stormy night, a lot of plastic and other garbage washed up on the hotel's own beach the following morning. The staff present did not seem to care. We asked them for a net and a garbage bag and we spent more than two hours removing all trash from the sea. The staff politely thanked us. So far so good. The following day, much more dirt and trash washed up, so we asked again for a net and a garbage bag. This time, too, they gave us these and we set to work again. After about an hour and a half, the beach staff must have realised that this does not reflect well on them when hotel guests do their job. So it happened that we were forbidden to take any more litter. Instead of the staff taking the trash out themselves afterwards, they got into the water with wooden boards and fanned all the dirt back out into the open sea. We could hardly believe it. Tourists pay an environmental fee in every place in the Philippines, but with behaviour like this, you really have to ask yourself what you are paying it for. When we reported the situation and our displeasure to the reception, we were only told that the management would be informed. We felt that we were not taken seriously at all. Of course, we gave feedback to the management, but their answer was also disappointing. Only a short email came back. No apology, no corrections or measures regarding the scenes described. We will certainly not check into this hotel again and will not recommend it to anyone.
