The better place to compare the general facilities is that it is more convenient to travel in the city centre. It is also very convenient to get off the train station. The hotel is very poor. If you are unfortunate, your window is next to the street. There is a bar downstairs every night. Shouting

Canterbury’s central location is very lively. The breakfast has English old-school features. The room is bigger than most British hotels, the front desk service attitude is very good

Close to shopping mall, there is a very nice Chinese restaurant opposite. I will choose this one next time. The first floor that likes to drink is the bar.

The best thing about this hotel was the location - couldn’t fault it. Unfortunately, there were lots of aspects of the hotel that we felt just weren’t ok for somewhere charging these prices. The main issue was the staff, from the moment we arrived, it was clear that most were disinterested in their job. We were disappointed to find that the breakfast was continental only (not something made clear on ***********). We asked for toast, they asked what kind we’d like and we said white. When it didn’t come we asked again and they said there was no white. Which is fine, but the same happened the following morning too. The hairdryer didn’t work in our room. My partner went to reception for them to plug it in (it worked), and hand it back to him saying it was fine. We tried again in our room, it didn’t work in any of the sockets. He went back and overheard the manager saying ‘what’s he complaining for - it works!’ We were then advised to not ‘wave it around’ or ‘use a brush to style with.’ The only way we could get it to work was if he held the plug into the wall while I used it.. and then it became incredibly hot after 30 seconds. I don’t understand the stand-off attitude and why we couldn’t be given a different hairdryer - it clearly was faulty and they knew it. The room we were in was large but with only one small window (and the smallest tv I’ve ever seen!) I echo what another reviewer says - in the night it was SO hot I couldn’t breathe. Awful ventilation. We also had a drippy tap and the bathroom door only shut when slammed. When we left, the staff were sat having breakfast and didn’t even come over to the reception to take the keys or ask how our stay had been. Overall I feel that this hotel was once probably lovely, however maybe the owners have stepped back a bit and the people they've left to run it just don’t really care. It’s also very interesting how the hotel has no presence on this page - not even to acknowledge reviews, let alone reply. Says a lot!

Hotel service is very good, although the breakfast variety is not much, but it is very British. The only downside is that the hotel has only two floors. It will be a bit troublesome to take the luggage up the stairs because the stairs are narrow.

This hotel is completely unique. It is an ancient building with stairs, uneven floors in places and rooms above the shops along the Burgate directly next door to the Cathedral entrance. Our beautiful room at the back, had a four poster bed and views over the rooftops to the Cathedral. Access was up some steps through an outdoor seating area and a lovely residents lounge and up further steps. The staff were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to help in any way possible including giving advice about local restaurants and pubs, places to visit and car parking. Continental breakfast is included in the price with additional charges for full English. All brought to you at your table and excellent. We all absolutely loved this completely unique ancient and beautiful place with wonderful, kind, helpful staff.
We chose this hotel for the history and the location. They did send us instructions about finding and accessing the hotel, but unfortunately as it was booked over 5 months ago, and part of a very long international holiday I had not found them until we had circled the block many many times. Understandably, due to the age of the building, there are no lifts and many floor level changes, so if mobility is an issue you may wish to look elsewhere. Our room was accessed by many stairs and a trip outside over the roof, but was spacious and clean. Windows looked straight onto the street, so they were kept closed due to the noise of the passing pedestrians. The slope on the floor took a bit to get used to! There are many restaurants close and it is a very lovely location with lots of quirky buildings and shops to view. The staff were all very friendly. helpful and proud of their hotel. The continental breakfast had everything we needed

This hotel in Canterbury is highly recommended. The hotel should have a history of more than 100 years. It is a family business. The house looks ancient from the outside, but it has been renovated inside. The lobby is quite modern. We booked a king-size room, which was very large. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also large. The key point is that the hotel parking lot is free. If you drive to Canterbury, I highly recommend staying here. It takes about 20 minutes to park the car and walk to the center of Canterbury. Compared with international chains, we prefer these local hotels, which are less crowded, quieter, more comfortable, and more cost-effective.

Breakfast needs an extra 15 pounds to book, one night in advance, there is no air-conditioning in the room, the heating needs to go downstairs to communicate with the reception to turn on, and some are not convenient. The interior design in the corridor is beautiful.

First things first - it is now called the Thanington Hotel. Parking is limited - once you enter there is no room to turn round if it is full and getting in and out of spaces is tricky. We parked on the back roads opposite the hotel for most of our stay. 15 minutes walk to the main shops and cathedral with a few decent pubs on the way. We were in room 9, decent size room with plenty of storage space. It was a bit tight between the bed and the wall. Good bathroom with powerful shower. We had air-con in our room but we couldn’t keep it on as it dripped tons of condensation onto the floor - we half-filled the waste paper bin. We enjoyed the hot and cold buffet breakfast with the occasional wait while they topped up the servers. We tried the bar one evening but there was not much choice and the night manager didn’t have much of a clue on portion sizes. We loved the inner courtyard for a relaxed rest. We’d definitely use again if we were in the area.
The room is medium-sized and has everything you need. The breakfast is buffet style, not bad, simple and delicious. There are a lot of jams to eat, as well as juice cereals and someone to bake toast for you. The service staff are also very kind ~ Here is a photo of the beautiful Canterbury Scenery~

The environment is good, at first glance, there is the feeling of Downton Manor. The attitude of the younger brother at the front desk is good, there is no elevator, and the big box is a little hard. Booked the cheapest standard room, outdated facilities, sanitation. The restaurant environment is ok, the taste is very general, and there are fewer people eating dinner. Breakfast is a traditional English breakfast, waiting for a long time, feeling forgotten, the restaurant is a young waitress serving poorly. Breakfast tableware is not clean. Surrounded by golf courses, the environment is good, some residents around the leisure play, it is estimated that the consumption is not high.

Lodges in nice wooded setting. Peaceful and despite the trees still had the sun shining thru. Was there at a warm spell no fans or any other cooling devices so lucky we had our own. Also there didn’t seem to be a phone to call reception but otherwise well equipped lodge and plan to stay a bit longer next time to fully enjoy the location and lodge.

The appearance of this homestay has forgotten to take pictures. It should be found in other commenters. This homestay is very close to Canterbury West Station. We have two oversized boxes, so we took a taxi to the hotel after leaving the station. 3-4 minutes paid 6.6 pounds 😄. The homestay is very good, the decoration is relatively new, the house is bright, and it is very clean. There are several staff and the service is better. We set a large room with breakfast. After we arrived, we were assigned a twin room with a large independent bathroom. The bed was about 1 meter wide, not wide, but the UK was like this. One thing worth mentioning: the time of the hotel check in here is generally after 3 pm, the time of check out is 10:30 the next morning, but we arrived at noon, went to the hotel early, the staff was also very enthusiastic to help us free the room, Still more humane. A very good stay experience, it is worth recommending to everyone.

Having never been to Canterbury before, we were amazed to find this place which is in the very centre of the city with its own parking spaces outside. We didn't eat there, I don't think they do breakfasts, but there is no need as you are about a minute or two's walk from places to eat. There are a lot of stairs but that was no problem to us. Our room was very well appointed and decorated. We had a private bathroom just outside the bedroom. I believe the building is Grade 2 listed. The only minus point was that it could have done with double glazing for sound insulation as it's so centrally situated. I would certainly recommend it. We had 2 nights here.

Hampton Canterbury is a very convenient hotel situated right in the city centre of Canterbury. Supermarket, restaurants and cathedral is literally 2-3 mins away. This is the 3rd time I stay here. Breakfast is excellent. Although the menu does not change, it is a very reliable good old English breakfast serve in a buffet. It has everything you need to start your day. I love it and look forward to it every time. (Although you might get slightly bored if you stay for 5 days like me). The environment is generally clean. I do not have a high requirements in the level of cleanliness. So don’t take my word for it. It is not luxurious, but you will get everything you need to support you throughout your journey for leisure or for business. On facilities side, there is no fridge in the room. Which is not a must. The room is medium in size. One down side is that there is no shower curtain. You will get a lot of water on to the bathroom floor when you shower. I suggest that they attach a shower holder on the glass side of the shower box. That way the water is directed towards the wall a lot less water will get on the floor. I will bring a suction type shower holder of my own next time. I will actually put it in my packing list. It would come in handy during travel. There is no coin op laundry in the hotel. And I don’t see any coin op laundry around the area. So you you need to use the hotel laundry service which will always be expensive. Personally I think it is a great hotel. Great value for money and is my number 1 choice of hotel when I come to Canterbury. Thank you for looking after us.

Pros: The room is clean and cleaned up in a timely manner. The breakfast is good, and the steak in the restaurant on the first floor can be slightly expensive. Cons: No elevator. However, there are few old hotels in the UK with elevators.

The location of this accommodation is perfect. Just 10-15 minutes walk from Canterbury West Train Station. There is a Sainsbury's local at the corner and the main street is just 2 minutes walk. The host is very nice and friendly. The room is clean, bed sheet and duvet smell good. For amenities, there are only hand wash and body wash, you have to bring your own stuffs. I booked to stay at Peregrine House, which is an annex of another hotel. Owing to a change of ownership, it was all rather confusing, but worked out very well in the end. I booked for Peregrine House, and was told it was on Hawks Lane, and I was to get my keys from Castle Hotel.. Then, immediately, I received another email saying I had to collect my key instead from Pilgrim's Hotel, The Friars! I turned up at Pilgrim's Hotel and the young lady at Reception was very nice, and explained the confusion was due to change of ownership that week. I then went to my room in Peregrine Hotel. The sign I saw was Hawks Lane Lodge, and later I saw that there is another sign above that saying Peregrine House. So when they get that sorted, it will be great!! Peregrine Hotel is down a little lane, off the main High Street, and was a bit dark at night. I am a lady on my own. But Peregrine House is ok once inside. The door is secure, and it is very clean inside. I stayed in Room 4 upstairs. It was very quiet and the window looked out on to an inside courtyard below. No street or other noise. Furniture in the room is dated, but ok. Room was a single, and the bed was ok but mattress could do with a firmer one instead. Bedding comfortable and clean. I was however rather cold in the night, in spite of a duvet on the bed, but there was no extra blanket. The en suite was fine, clean. Shower, toilet, basin, and shampoos, soap etc provided. In the room, there is a kettle, tea, coffee, biscuits, a nice decent sized mug, Also, a hairdryer. There is a small TV on the wall. One of the ceiling light bulbs had blown, and the strip light over the basin did not work. I left a message for housekeeping. Wonderful big, soft, cosy bathsheet towel! Clean carpet. Would stay again. Would recommend...as long as you realise that Reception and breakfast is at Pilgrim's hotel (opposite the Marlow Theatre). ”Hot” breakfast at Pilgrims (included in my room rate) was ”ok”. I chose the Vegetarian option and declined the egg. But it was just two rather dry vegetarian ”sausages”, a ready bought heated rosti, a few mushrooms, a small spoonful of wilted spinach, a couple of spoonfuls of beaked beans and a tomato. Dining room there at Pilgrim's almost too quiet! Toast, croissants etc available at buffet bar. A GOOD POINT IS THAT YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR BAG AFTER CHECK OUT, IN A LOCKED CUPBOARD AT PILGRIM'S, SO YOU DON'T NEED TO WALK AROUND ALL DAY WITH IT!

Went in for the Pub Quiz on Sunday. Lovely atmosphere and good afternoon's entertainment. Bar selection was a bit limited and steep in price. Only a larger on draft, no ales on tap although the bottles were from local breweries, no soft drinks on tap only bottles so expensive for the little capacity. Food choices very limited only a couple of choices of crisps. Selection of gin was very good, and very much enjoyed! Will we be back to support the quiz? Of course but could not afford every week.
