My friend and I each booked at room at Emiliano Rio for the end of June as a pre-tour R&R and celebration of summer break. Our stay there from beginning to end was TOP NOTCH. We both received facials and massages at the spa, took advantage of the sauna and steam rooms, hung out on the rooftop, and went to the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Everyone we met who works there were warm and welcoming. They were able to accommodate our early arrival and late departure, which was greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend staying at the Emiliano Rio. The food at the restaurant was delicious, and as we told them we were both celebrating the completion of our PhDs, the restaurant staff even wrote a personalized letter acknowledging the celebration.
Five days in advance of my family's arrival in Rio in July 2024, this hotel suddenly cancelled the reservations I had made through ******* several weeks earlier. I received an e-mail from ******* announcing the cancellation, which had no explanation or why. My subsequent 90 MINUTE PHONE SESSION with ******* reps similarly did not provide ANY explanation for the cancellation. Most shockingly, when I went online to book replacement reservations on *******, the first property listed for the search for the same dates was the Emiliano. Guess what? The room rate was higher than that of my booking. The ******* phone rep, while very helpful, was embarrassed and had nothing to say about why the same rooms in the reservation that the Emiliano had just cancelled were available for booking online. I have not experienced anything remotely likely this during 50 years of arranging international travel and more than a decade of doing it online via *******. Don't make a reservation at this hotel if you actually expect to stay there!
