How is this fair?
Mila, a young football player hoping to become professional, is knocked out too. Dreams turn to ashes. The beautiful game isn’t so beautiful anymore and all shots are allowed. Director’s note: Our starting points were scale, Emir Kusturica and Tadeusz Kantor. Throughout the development process, we have used some of Kantor’s principles as tools to explore Kusturica’s world, his characters and his aesthetic.
At first, the questions leading our exploration was: how to achieve scale whilst keeping a concrete, genuine and direct link with the real? And then, how to play with the excessive, the outrageous and the bombastic, whilst maintaining strong, meaningful and honest connections with the truth. But then… what is the truth or what is our truth, and how hard are we willing to fight for it?
Ultimately, The Hand of God is a life-affirming, surrealist and delirious tale about growing-up and the choices we make.
