Presented by the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, this workshop will take place on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm in the Warburton Gallery. Designed for all skill levels, the workshop welcomes participants aged 18 and up.
During the workshop, May Shei will guide you through the foundational strokes of freehand style and the Xieyi technique. You will also learn how to seamlessly blend Asian and Western wet-in-wet techniques to create stunning watercolor and mixed media artworks. Through a combination of demonstrations, individual instruction, and critique sessions, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop compositions for floral and bird paintings that are both interesting and dynamic.
- Gain control over water amounts when working with rice paper to achieve various styles and unique results.
- Apply finishing touches to your artwork using chops.
The materials needed for the workshop include Chinese painting colors (regular watercolors are also suitable), Chinese painting ink (black watercolor can be used as a substitute), brushes (both firm and soft), an 8B pencil or charcoal, and an optional piece of old cardboard for transporting wet paintings. Practice rice paper, student-grade brushes, and ink will be provided.
