The Lodge at Craigielaw and Golf Courses

Chose to stay 2 nights to explore an area we were not familiar with and found this to be a very comfortable stay. All in relation to the cost paid, for an out of season stay we found this a good base to explore surrounding beaches, Gullane and North Berwick etc. I’m not into golf at all but if you are the whole area is just one golf course after another. The lodge itself is in the golf course/members club. The room facing the sea etc was very large and cosy. Shower room was piping hot. The bed was very large and extremely comfortable. Decor was fine, oak furniture etc. Solid and functional. I like a bath when out exploring so bit disappointing only showers but I knew this in advance and shower was good. Decor in restaurant / bar area nice and lovely Christmas lights and baubles hung on the windows gave a nice feeling. We ate two evening meals which were fine. Slightly on the expensive side for what they were. Breakfast included but could have been better. Fine if you are into full Scottish breakfasts which most golfers probably are but no choice of nice breads or pastries etc. Very handy for numerous beaches which I enjoyed with all the various rock formations and handy to visit wonderous woods light show in nearby Gosford house grounds that just happened to be on while we were there. Access to the lodge is a bit hidden and tricky on dark winter roads though.
Marine North Berwick

Didn’t stay at Marine but had an awesome experience with food, drinks and entertaining golf both on grounds and nearby. My kids adored the putting green out back. The interior bar is cozy and the outdoor terrace is a great place to unwind on a nice day. Well worth a stop if in N Berwick!!

I am very fortunate to choose to stay here in the end, I had previously wanted to change to a hotel in the city center. The facilities of this old castle hotel are very in place. In 2008, an elevator was added so that the pain of carrying boxes to climb the building was avoided. Breakfast is very generous, in fact it is enough to eat only the buffet on its dining table. Ordered its traditional English breakfast on the first day and couldn't eat a lot of it. The room was large, the bathroom and bedroom were heated and it was very hot. Before going to bed, they had to be closed. The hotel staff are very welcoming and the service is in place. Finally, I have to say that their desserts are delicious, so try them!
Greywalls Hotel & Chez Roux

Booked the Dinner, B&B package on offer. Friendly welcome from the manager who also kindly carried our bags up to our room. Our room overlooked the delightful gardens albeit the weather did not show them off to their best. We enjoyed a cup of tea in the library beside the roaring fire. Dinner itself was an absolute joy! Being Valentines we were presented with a delicious champagne cocktail made up from Secret Garden Gin and Rose Champagne. We were then given some amuse bouche including smoked salmon and caviar and a little tartlet. My starter of crab was absolutely wonderful. The ingredients that went with the crab resulted in the freshest flavours that burst in the mouth. For main pork loin was served. This was the nicest pork I have ever tasted as it was moist and succulent and literally fell away when cut. Again the accompaniments worked perfectly with this dish. A pre-dessert was served which again could not be faulted. The main dessert itself of hot apple souffle with a caramel sauce and mango sorbet were enjoyed by us both despite thinking we could not possibly manage to eat anything else! This was not the end of the meal as coffee was offered along with some petit fours. I have to say that the entire meal was one of the best I have had in a long time and I cannot praise the chef highly enough. Overall this is a delightful hotel with lovely friendly staff and I would recommend it to anyone. I know many reports state the hotel is a bit ”tired” but this is a fairly old manor style building that has its own special charm which for me is ideal.
