The Elephant Trunk Hill

Étretat is a coastal town in the Upper Normandy region of France, often referred to as the Elephant Trunk Coast. On the coast of Étretat, the three most famous sea gates are Porte dAval, Porte dAmont, and Manneporte. The cliffs and the beaches here attracted artists such as the 19th-century French landscape painter Eugene Boudin, the realist painter Gustave Courbet, and the impressionist painter Monet to visit here.



Etretat is a seaside town in northwestern France. It is located on the snow-white coast of Normandy in northwestern France and is known as the "First Coast of France". It faces the English Channel to the north and is far away from the United Kingdom. It is a seaside town with a typical Normandy style. The population of the town is less than 2,000. The coast of Etretat stretches for several kilometers. The cliff facing the sea is cut into a straight cliff by the sea water and sea breeze. The cliff is a special white-gray color, like a huge white wall. The cliff is naturally carved out of several "arches" and "sky bridges" by the magic of nature, standing tall and majestic. The town of Etretat is famous for its natural scenery such as the Aval Cliff that looks like an elephant's trunk, which has attracted many literati and poets.


