The most famous is Plitvice Lakes, where 16 natural lakes are connected, with a large amount of calcium carbonate limestone deposits in the lakes, presenting green, gray, blue, etc., forming an ultimate natural landscape. ☘️ Speaking of Croatia, one must first mention Dubrovnik, also known as 'King's Landing' in the famous 'Game of Thrones'. Even if you're not a fan of the show, it's more customary to call it King's Landing, as it seems to show the grandeur of this ancient city.

This will give you enough time to explore the park's Lower and Upper Lakes areas, as well as embark on a hiking adventure to discover the hidden gems of the park. Recommended Itinerary: Day 1️⃣: Start your adventure by exploring the Lower Lakes area. This section of the park is home to a series of cascading waterfalls and turquoise lakes that will leave you spellbound. Follow the wooden pathways that wind their way around the lakes, allowing you to get up close and personal with this natural wonder. Don't miss the iconic Veliki Slap, the largest waterfall in the park. Day 2️⃣: Head to the Upper Lakes area, where you'll be greeted by more stunning lakes and waterfalls. Take your time to soak in the tranquility and beauty of the surroundings. For a unique perspective, consider taking a boat ride across Lake Kozjak, the largest lake in the park. Day 3️⃣: Embark on a hiking adventure to discover the hidden gems of Plitvice Lakes National Park. Choose from a variety of trails that cater to different fitness levels and interests. Stunning scenery. It's worth the few hours drive from Zagreb. To truly appreciate this national park, you should spend a day or two nights to complete a longer hike. The hiking routes are well posted. The park entrance fee is 10 euros per person. We visited the lakes in September 2023. The ticket was 40 euros per person. Tickets can be purchased online. They send you the ticket by mail, and you show the ticket QR code on your phone. The routes are marked in different colors: green from entrance 1, orange from entrance 2. We chose route H. Start at entrance 2 at 8 AM. With a 6-year-old child, we hiked 11km in 7 hours. We didn't rush. Some of the way we traveled by bus (route 2) and boat. Tickets were checked when boarding the bus and boat. At the end of the route, there was a large flow of people, and many organized groups. The website has an application that you can install on your phone. The application determines your location and shows the next steps of the route. There are many restaurants on site to try, but we ate alone. We paid 10 euros for parking. The lakes are unique and worth the visit. Highly recommended.

#familytrips2024 Around 2 hours away from Zagreb or 3 hours from Split, the Plitvice Lakes National Park can only be reached by private transport or day tour with a Croatia travel agency. I will recommend to go with a day tour as they will be able to guide you the nature trails around the Lower Lakes as well as the Upper Lakes. The guide will bring you around the park to admire and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the UNESCO World Heritage site - the 16 terraced lakes, breathtaking canyons, and more than 90 waterfalls.
