Located in a beautiful square with public gardens, the Sir John Thorne Museum has a guided tour of the subject of the PhD’s research and many other elements of Egyptology, and is no more than a 5-minute walk from the Central Line’s Holbourne Metro Station.
The basement tour of the Sir John Thorne Museum is like a journey through the future, with extraordinary use of light. Upstairs is more like a traditional gallery containing stone carvings from around the world, including the Egyptian king's sarcophagus, set up as it was 200 years ago.
Great architecture, unfortunately quite a few places are not open to the public. You go back to the eighteenth century England to see the beautifully furnished kitchen and Egyptian coffins, or climb upstairs to see a small but reminiscent collection of Hobart paintings. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit.
an incredible museum full of incredible pieces - the building itself is a piece of art
