We had a great day in this prison. Our family loves history so this tour was a great experience and an interactive tour that takes you back to the past. My 9-year-old son loves to pretend to be locked up. The prison itself is interesting, especially the display of Ned Kelly. I highly recommend it if you like to learn about history.

The old prison is very big. You have to go to a small store to buy tickets, visit the men's prison, and then wait for the prison experience that should be an hourly one. The prison guard takes you to prison, and this time you are his prisoner! At first, I was looking at the photo with my mobile phone and was murdered by him! Scared me! Hahahahaha, personally feel quite fun. Not much to say about the specifics! It is more interesting to let you experience it yourself! (The whole English, my English is not very good, so I will listen to a general, it is recommended to understand the history in advance, if you are interested, you will feel that it is not worth the fare, one person is more than 30 Australians, student ID can be discounted!)
Every time in the old prison, there is an experience of the activities of prisoners. When we went there that day, we happened to catch up with the activities. A staff member wore police uniforms. We had about 30 people. Men and women stood in two rows separately to experience the process of prisoners entering the detention center. You will also randomly draw a few people and send you a piece of paper with names, crimes, simple interrogations.
Worth to pay a visit! The one who pretended the warden was so into it and it was really fun! Good experience and know more about the life in gaol in the past.
Melbourne's old prison, next door to the Royal Melbourne Polytechnic University, is a uniquely built, like a stately castle, famous for having held and executed Australia's once-famous Greenwood grand zei Kelly. Visiting the old prison is charged, the price is not cheap, you can see some of the torture equipment used at the time, Ned Kelly's armor helmet, mask, and realistic performances, recreate the original environment of the old Melbourne prison.
Melbourne's old prison, the oldest existing Victorian prison, used to hold manic and stubborn criminals, is now a museum, retaining all the original settings. After purchasing a visit ticket, you can receive the "Visitor Guide", which is available in Chinese. Near the corner of Victoria Street and Russell Street, the already black bluestone building is now left only a part of it. The cell building is centrally accessible, with three-story single cells on both sides, which are still very cold in the summer. The display of hanging, whipping platform, whip, handcuffs, foot shackles and other torture equipment is shocking. 104 death row prisoners were executed here, and the first of Australia's legendary bandits, Ned Kelly, was hanged in this prison in 1880. He and the police force used in the final battle of the hand helmet, armor and other death masks are displayed. The museum has a jail experience event every day Watch House Experience) Visitors interested in participating may wish to pay attention to the schedule of the day's event when entering the door, and return to the meeting place 10 minutes before the event starts (the visitors with the standard do not need to pay extra). After the event starts, you will get an indictment (Charge Sheet), which records the name, address, charges, arrest place, etc. of the prisoner you play. The "prisoner" will give each visitor a few minutes to remember these content, and then the "prisoner" will bring you "prisoner" into the prison. And he demanded that everyone follow his instructions, including symbolic body searches and inspections, to create the atmosphere as real. Men and women tourists were divided into two teams, locked in the lockdown, small spaces, claustrophobic environments made people feel suffocating oppression. The whole experience activity is about 30-40 minutes. After experiencing "jail", tourists can take a photo of the prisoner in front of the set with a number. If you like it, you can print it out in the souvenir shop for a souvenir. After the experience is completed, no "prisoner photo" is taken.
Now it is all an attraction, all aspects of the prison are average, it is unlikely to have praise.
To experience the "prison culture", this old Melbourne prison has now withdrawn all prisoners, open to the public, although it is midsummer, the environment inside is still "cold and humid", but the volunteers (the prison guard) are quite powerful, will ask you what crime you have committed, the tone is rude, the language is vulgar, Finally, put you in the "little black house", let you "cut" experience a prisoner feeling! !
